SMS Non-Woven Fabric:

Just as discussed in previous articles, some non-woven fabrics are a hybrid of existing individual types of non-woven fabrics. SMS is one such type. SMS stands for Spunbond – Meltblown – Spunbond non-woven fabric. So it is a tri-layered or tri-laminate fabric. The structure of the fabric is as follows:

• The top layer is made of Spunbond non-woven fabric.
• The second or middle layer is made of Meltblown non-woven fabric.
• The third and final layer is another layer of Spunbond non-woven fabric.

Although it is made of three layers, the final product acts as a single-layered fabric which can’t be separated.

Most commonly, the Spunbond and Meltblown fabrics are both made of the same fibre for SMS non-woven fabric. Polypropylene is commonly used for the manufacturing of SMS fabric. So basically the only difference between the Spunbond and Meltblown fabric is in the structure of the fabric and how the fabric was initially created.
